Thumbs Up Thumb Spica

Rigid plastic shells provide more protection than other forms of splints, but unfortunately they can be uncomfortable to wear due to chafing and lack of breathability. The Thumbs Up Thumb Spica solves this problem with its innovative design by providing breathable holes in the plastic shell and a protective glove underneath, keeping your hand cool and comfortable throughout the day.

What Are the Advantages of a Thumb Spica Splint?

Splinting facilitates the immobilisation and stabilisation of the joint in question, helping to protect from further injury. One advantage of using an elasticated thumb spica splint with a rigid casing instead of a cast or brace is they provide a great combination of support to the injured area and compression the surrounding area

How Much Manual Dexterity Does This Spica Allow?

The intelligent design of this thumb spica allows for the full range of finger motion, making daily tasks much easier. The open palm design also means that it is lightweight and comfortable, preventing it from interfering with physical activities.

How Easy Is This Thumb Spica to Apply?

The simple-to-use hook-and-loop fastenings make this thumb spica easy to fit securely, even one-handed. The rigid thumb support has been anatomically shaped to provide the right immobilisation which makes it easy to slide on and off when the fastenings are undone.

How Effective Is This Thumb Splint for Arthritis?

The gentle elastic nature of the fabric means that this thumb spica will provide enough support without stressing the ligaments or joints. The carefully moulded rigid thumb support makes sure your thumb is kept at the ideal angle to alleviate pain and stabilise the joint.

What Evidence is There For the Efficacy of Thumb Splints?

In a study done by the University of Otago, splinting demonstrated a considerable reduction in pain and a moderate long-term improvement of function.

In another study done by the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery in Guy's Hospital, an impressive 70% of patients awaiting surgery for osteoarthritis no longer needed surgery after wearing orthotic splints like the Thumbs Up Thumb Splints.
